This past Friday, Conservative mayoral candidate Tom Wootton was announced as the new Mayor of Bedford Borough following local election voting which saw him defeat his predecessor, Dave Hodgson.
As Mayor of Bedford Borough, Tom said that he wants to manage infrastructure and planning more effectively, support vulnerable adults, children and families and grow the Bedford Borough.
He also laid out plans to create a safer borough, improve transport links to keep Bedford moving and implement a green agenda.
During his campaign he was endorsed by Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner Festus Akinbusoye who praised his positive, can-do attitude and support for police officers. Mr Wootton successfully held on to his Wyboston seat and a by-election will take place to decide the ward's new representative.
Our Area Chairman Douglas Hansen-Luke said “Tom our new Mayor won after a year long campaign masterminded by him and Andrea Spice. Well known in the country wards of Bedford Borough, Tom and Andrea proved adept at winning over swing voters in commuter villages. Congratulations Tom!”
